PETITION: DEMAND WESTFIELD- KOTARA rethink - PLUTO PUPS PET SHOP! LINK: http://www.causes.com/causes/644857-let-s-turn-facebook-orange-for-animal-cruelty-awareness/actions/1715697 " Puppy mills are " intensive dog breeding facilities that are operated under inadequate conditions that fail to meet the dogs' behavioural, social and/or physiological needs." Unfortunately Westfield Kotara NSW has a new pet shop opening on December 22nd that will sell cats & dogs in store and online. Consider sending Westfield a polite email as to why you disagree with this. EMAIL- kotara.reception@au.westfield.com PETSHOP. Contact .. Plutopups Pet Shop and leave a polite message that selling animals on-line is supporting cruelty to animals. www.plutopups.com.au http://www.plutopups.com.au/petsforsale http://www.plutopups.com.au/contact/ Update #2 Posted by Jayne Cvetanoski (Cause Leader) on December 17 Here is the response I received from Westfield Kotara in response to my email regarding Pluto Pups francise selling animals. Good Afternoon, Thank you for your email in relation to the opening of Pluto Pups at Westfield Kotara. As you can appreciate, Westfield considers pet stores an important and popular part of retail mix at its shopping centres. It is our usual practice to present any valid concerns regarding any of our retailers to the retailer in question and also invite you to make direct contact with that retailer if you have issues regarding the manner in which they trade. In this instance we have been advised that Pluto Pups abides by local and State government legislation including the Animal Welfare Code of Practice in Pet Shops, The Breeding Dogs and Cats Code of Practice and they are a member of the peak industry body in Australia, the Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA) who work in conjunction with the RSPCA and the Animal Welfare League to guarantee the breeding standards and the future of animals purchased from a pet shop. Pluto Pups have advised that they are currently ensuring all their breeders are listed on the new PIAA dogs' lifetime guarantee policy, which ensures that dogs purchased from PIAA member retail stores are sourced from responsible breeders whose operations are subject to independent audits each year and that any dog purchased from a PIAA member that becomes unwanted or abandoned at any age is re-homed. The PIAA advocates that the Dogs Lifetime Guarantee Policy on Dog Traceability & Re‑Homing means consumers can purchase with confidence from a PIAA member retail store, knowing that their dog is not the product of a puppy farm and that should the dog become unwanted at any point in its lifetime, PIAA will ensure the dog is re-homed. At Westfield Kotara, Pluto Pups have advised that they will be selling rescue cats and dogs and will also rehome kittens. They will also be working with welfare organisations to allow Pluto Pups to rehome rescue dogs and kittens in store and have purpose-built the store for this reason. If you would like to discuss this matter directly with the retailer, please contact adoptions@plutopups.com.au, or you can contact centre management directly on 02 4016 2570. Regards Justina Nicholson Marketing Manager Westfield Kotara
